The Hebrew language program in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics offers a variety of courses that introduce you to Hebrew language and literature through different periods of their fascinating history - from Biblical Hebrew through Rabbinic and Medieval Hebrew to Modern Hebrew. In our courses students learn Hebrew through communicative and interactive methods and they engage in critical study of monumental Hebrew literary works: the Bible, the Mishna, the Talmud, biblical commentaries, and contemporary Hebrew literature. Our mission is to provide an outstanding curriculum and to promote knowledge and understanding of Hebrew language and literature, Israeli society and culture, Jewish history and Jewish thought.
Hebrew is a vital tool for academic work in many disciplines. Students can take Hebrew courses to fulfil requirements of the Jewish Studies Major or Minor, the Jewish Teacher Education Program in the Faculty of Education, and the Advanced Certificate in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Our courses are offered at all levels, from introductory to advanced, and are open to students in any discipline.
